Welcome Note from Coach

Flag Football Parents (Steeler Nation)

My name is Jim Hayes (AJ’s Dad) and I am excited to be coaching your kids this season.  This my 4th season coaching flag football and my 13th team combined (football, baseball, softball, basketball). If your kid makes to the Pros, I hope to be mentioned as footnote in their bio J. Your kids are going to have a lot of fun, work hard, and learn a lot about work ethic, sportsmanship, and the game. For the first few weeks I will give your player a fun homework assignment that they will teach them about the rules and history of football. Practices and games are both on Sundays. Before every game will be a 1 hour practice. Please have your player to the field and ready 15 minutes before practice begins. Practices are short and there is a LOT to learn. Practices will include set drills that will last no longer than 10 minutes each, in an effort to keep the attention of wandering minds. These drills can cover a lot of space and parent assistance is needed to keep the kids corralled and the practice on schedule. We will NOT do conditioning during practice, as the practice will be fast paced and I don’t want to waste any extra energy before the game. Conditioning (running) will only be a consequence of poor behavior or effort.

Practice/Game Uniform

The league will provide a reversible jersey. You also had the option during registration to purchase a pair of shorts. One I pick up the orders on Sept. 9, I will let you know what the shorts look like so you can pick up a similar looking pair for your player if you wish. The weather is going to start getting cool very soon, and the players will need to wear pants during practice/games. Please have a BLACK pair of pants for your player. I will be going to either Dick’s or Amazon to get AJ a pair of BLACK baseball pants. You are “all set” if your player already owns a pair of BLACK sweat pant or running pants.

Team Building/Pick Up Games

Monday 9/7  from 4 to 5:30 Friday 9/11 from 6:30  to 7:30 I would like to invite you and your player over to our house for a little pick up game and to knock the dust off our football fundamentals. I have a football field cut out (mowed) into my backyard. This will be great chance for the kids and parents to meet, and for the kids to start learning some basic plays. I hope you can make it.

Ongoing team communication & Schedule this year

The schedule is not out yet. All communication will be done through our team page on the league website. This is the same website that your registered your player. Please check the team page weekly for updates

Fantasy Football

I have set up a FREE fantasy league for the team and any of your kid’s friends that would like to join. Please share the below link and league information with any kids that you think would like to participate.  The website is very kid friendly and allows them to learn about all the players in an interactive way. The prize for the Fantasy Football League winner will be a Pittsburg Steelers Terrible Towel.
